When one thinks of the dishes created by Celebrity Chef Javani King, what might come to mind? After experiencing a one-of-a-kind tasting experience at Dolce Ultra Lounge and Bistro on Saturday, it’s safe to say that his dishes are truly remarkable and vibrant, creating an evocative experience like no other. The owner, Al Rucker, and King have really outdone themselves! We give it our stamp of approval and take a gander to see why!
The first course, Tuna Crudo, was the perfect combination of sweet and savory, yet refreshing flavors, and perfect for a summer menu! Flavors of cucumber and avocado with peach soy were blended perfectly with the fresh fish. Pumpkin seed and sesame brought out a bit of boldness that satisfied our taste buds.
Course two introduced us to the spicy and tangy flavors of Mexico as we sampled a Chipotle Glazed Hen that instantly became a favorite! The black bean corn salad reminded us of a sophisticated version of roasted street corn, and the plantain further added to the deliciousness of the South American flavors.
Course three was the chef’s awesome interpretation of fried fish and coleslaw, a Southern favorite! The Parmesan Crusted Sea Bass was dressed with a peach and tomato compote and accompanied by a wonderful, light quinoa slaw. It was fish and coleslaw like we’ve never had it!
Course four was a play on Javani’s father’s favorite dish, and was a true representation of Southern culture. The Crispy Pork Belly with a Sweet Potato Gnocci and Sriracha Honey Reduction reminded us of grandma’s house for Sunday dinner. It was truly country and sophisticated all at the same time!
Italian-inspired course five was a dish that showcased Javani’s love for oxtails, but he used lamb instead! The Braised Lamb Ragout and Crispy Wonton Cannoli filled with garlic mashed potatoes was absolutely wonderful as flavors of smoked bacon and goat cheese had our taste buds dancing! We think it’s safe to say that it was another crowd favorite, but then again, what wasn’t?
Course six was a great creation of Steak and Eggs, which consisted of grilled ribeye, a purple and red potato hash with heirloom potatoes and onions, and was topped with an over easy fried quail egg. The cilantro chimichurri added another amazing boost to the dish, as if it needed it anyway!
The seventh and final course was a sweet, decadent version of Popcorn and Candy. A combination of crispy wafers, dark chocolate and caramel popcorn with candied peanuts accompanied vanilla bean ice cream that would give Blue Bell a run for its money; yes, it was that good! The bourbon vanilla caramel had a flavor so great, we were still eating it after the ice cream was gone. Needless to say, we were full and still wanting more!
