KTSU 90.9 FM celebrates 48 years with Birthday Bash

HOUSTON — The year 2019 marks the 48th birthday of KTSU 90.9 FM, and many came together to celebrate the legacy and service that the station has provided to the community and surrounding areas for many years.

Houston’s socialites and supporters of the station came together on Saturday, June 29 at Grooves of Houston to celebrate several successful years of music, history, and growth. The night was filled with fun, a jazz lounge, food, some of your favorite KTSU DJs.

KTSU 90.9 was founded on June 23, 1972, and KTSU-FM is a major component of outreach for Texas Southern University.


For 48 years, the entity and the people within it have provided the community with non-commercial schedules of public affairs programming, jazz, blues, R&B oldies, gospel, reggae, neo soul, zydeco music and other special programs for 24 hours a day.

KTSU’s mission is to ultimately “implement partnerships with community organizations to advance and enrich the cultural life of Houston, promote the resources and services of Texas Southern University and provide positive images of the university with programming of the highest quality.”
